Too Hard Pile · Mental Model Trainer

Knowing the model isn't the same as using it.

Reading about mental models builds knowledge, not habit. Too Hard Pile turns 13 decision-making frameworks into short daily drills on realistic scenarios, with spaced repetition — so the right question shows up on its own when a hard decision does. The free Decision Toolbox is there for a decision you're facing right now.

The BlackShip Way

Built on three promises.

Every app we ship is measured against the same three ideas — if it doesn't feel exceptional to use, respect your privacy, and respect your time, it doesn't leave the dock.

An experience beyond compare

Every screen, gesture, and detail is obsessively crafted — a user experience you simply won't find anywhere else.

Private first

Your data belongs to you. Our Android apps keep your content on your device with no account at all; where an account is genuinely needed, as in Too Hard Pile, we ask for as little as we can — and we never sell your personal information.

Fast & focused

Every screen is designed for speed. No clutter breaking your flow, no bloat slowing your phone down.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Everything you need to know about Too Hard Pile on the web and our free Android apps — MemorySpace, Power PDF and Picto.

What is Too Hard Pile?
Too Hard Pile is a mental model trainer you use in your browser. It turns 13 decision-making frameworks into short daily drills built on realistic scenarios, with spaced repetition so the frameworks are still there when a genuinely hard decision arrives. It also includes a free Decision Toolbox of 13 guided tools you can use on a real decision straight away, with no signup. See the full Too Hard Pile page →
Why is it called a “too hard pile”?
The name comes from investing. Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger described sorting decisions into three boxes — in, out, and too hard — and putting anything they couldn't work out into the too hard pile. The site is named after the goal of making that pile smaller.
Are BlackShip Developers apps free?
MemorySpace, Power PDF and Picto are all free to download on Google Play for Android, with no account required to get started. Too Hard Pile has a free tier — the full Decision Toolbox with no signup, plus the first 3 models — and a paid plan at $4.99 per month or $39.99 per year for all 13 models and 1,300+ drills.
Do BlackShip apps work offline and without an account?
Our Android apps do. MemorySpace keeps your notes and memories on your device, Power PDF reads and scans documents locally, and Picto teaches English grammar offline — all without sign-ups or cloud accounts. Too Hard Pile is different: it runs in a browser, so it needs a connection, and an account is required to save your progress, streaks and journal. Its Decision Toolbox works without an account.
What is Picto and who is it for?
Picto is a visual English grammar app for learners of all levels. It turns confusing rules into clear pictures — verb forms, tenses, articles, prepositions and more — with pressure-free practice and progress tracking. Its Google Play title is “Picto – Master English grammar” (formerly “English Verbs & Forms Offline”). See the full Picto page →
What can Power PDF do?
Power PDF is a fast PDF reader, document scanner and OCR tool. You can read, create and organize PDFs, convert images and camera captures to PDF, extract text with OCR, and lock or unlock files with a password.
What is MemorySpace?
MemorySpace is a private, on-device organizer for the things that matter — notes, photos, voice memos, document scans, reminders and events — grouped into calm Spaces. Everything stays on your device with no accounts or cloud.
Which Android version do I need?
BlackShip apps support modern Android devices running Android 8.0 and above. Check each app's Google Play listing for the exact requirement on your device.
Are my data and files kept private?
On Android, your notes, scans and documents stay on your device, and we never sell your personal information. Because those apps are free and ad-supported, advertising and analytics providers may process limited app activity and device identifiers, as declared in each app's Google Play Data Safety section. Too Hard Pile stores your email address, your drill ratings and anything you write in your decision journal so your progress can be saved; payments run through Creem and Razorpay, so card details never reach us. See our Privacy Policy for details.
